Your Membership: How AMLA Works for YOU

Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the NAMLE serves its members and advances the field of media literacy education in countless ways:

  • Represents the voice of the media literacy education field nationally and collaborates with other professional organizations to ensure media literacy education's seat at the national table.
  • Collects and publishes a national exchange of news in the field, including the monthly NAMLE Update e-newsletter.
  • Stimulates research in the field through conferences and soon, a professional Journal of Media Literacy Education.
  • Serves as a catalyst for new leaders to emerge.
  • Stimulates cross-disciplinary connections.
  • Organizes response to national opportunities and challenges such as the Hurricane Katrina curriculum downloaded by thousands of teachers in the weeks after the disaster.
  • Promotes professional networking through national and regional gatherings and events.
  • Links individual members with national, academic and local organizations providing service to the media literacy field.
  • And of course, NAMLE's all-volunteer board mobilizes dozens of people who work tirelessly for many months to organize the biannual National Media Education and Research Conference so YOU can learn and share new ideas and meet colleagues from all over the country and the world.
  • But whether or not you attend the conference, NAMLE's very existence leads to increased recognition of YOUR work and greater legitimacy for YOUR dreams!
